The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society has built from strength to strength since our humble beginnings as a parent support group in 1999. With an initial intention merely to help families struggling through lack of information and financial support to bear the underlying costs of treatment, we have since grown to support over 1,400 families of children with cancer.

Counselling Sessions started
Parent to parent counselling was started in 2002. Seeing a need for more structured counselling sessions besides the existing parent sharing sessions, the Society enlisted a social worker to begin scheduled one-on-one counselling sessions with the parents.

22 June - Launching of halfway home at Maxwell Road
The Society made its halfway home available in June 2001 to reduce the financial burden for outstation patients, and it was officially launched by the then-Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng in 2004. The 3 room house was able to accommodate up to 5 families at a time.

End of Life and Bereavement Care
SCCS started two projects to support end of life and bereavement care. Memorial Day was created to remember the children who passed away from childhood cancer, while also ensuring that families continue to feel included in SCCS after their child has passed. The Wishing Star project aims to create memorable moments for the child and their loved ones through visits to Legoland or other special interest places, themed parties, gifts, and many others.

Upgrading ward facilities
The upgrading of ward facilities at both the Paediatric Ward 2A of Sarawak General Hospital and Paediatric Ward at Sibu General Hospital were fully sponsored by the Society for added ease and comfort of patients and their families.
As has been our practice from the start, we are constantly finding ways to improve and expand upon the support services provided to families of children affected by childhood cancer. All this would not have been possible without the support of volunteers and donors over the years.
Thank you for Helping Kids Fight Cancer!

Help us continue to support children with cancer and their families. Regular donations enable us to continue to provide support to devastated families, provide lodging, transportation services and food, monthly financial subsidies, donate medical consumables and lab tests, subsidise or pay for expensive medical procedures that families otherwise cannot afford, bring joy, and create lasting family memories.
